The first thing that comes to mind when reading your comment is that the wifi antenna in the tablet may not be a powerful as the one in your laptop. How far are you from the router? You should try these tests next to the router in order to reduce these differences. If you're still having a problem with the Archos, you may want to contact tech support about this. You may be able to have it replaced or repaired under warranty. Alternatively, you may want to consider returning the device due to the problems you're currently having and all the problems others have had with these tablets. Let me know how it turns out.

Hi Jack, I just received my G8 Archos A101 and I have not had many problems besides a connectivity problem to my wifi. I am currently on 10 mgps internet service through Insight Communications. My wireless router is a newer N router from Netgear. I noticed the problem on the tab when I have been buffering during short videos (3 or 4 minutes) on youtube. I downloaded the Speedtest.net app and have tested this device many many times. The highest download speed I saw was 1,296 KBPS. The lowest I have seen is 556 KBPS. At this exact moment, I continued to turn the wifi off on my tablet and turned the wifi on on my laptop. I tested the laptop wifi connection to this router via Speedtest.net and it came up just shy over 10 MBPS every single time I tested (many times). I once again turned this laptop connection off after this and tested the tablet again. Once again, only around 1 MGPS. I have installed the newest firmware available for the device (the Froyo Android 2.2.1) and checked to make sure multiple times I was updated as well. I did reboot afterward the initial firmware update when I first received the device (5 days ago). Any suggestions on improving this connection problem? Also as a side not, I have noticed some weird things with the wifi on this tablet as I have used it. Whenever I have downloaded some apps, it will be in the middle of downloading and all of a sudden lose internet connection. I will turn wifi off and back on again, cancel the download and restard the download. It will continue to download successfully after a few attempts at this. That does not happen EVERY time I download an app though. Also I have suffered the internet on it for a continuous hour or two without disconnections. It only seems that disconnects happen are during downloads, after using the speedtest.net app or watching a video on youtube. It seems as if it just loses wifi signal and then I turn off and right back on and it fires right back up. I have never seen this problem through my laptop or any other of my wifi devices I have used before. Thank you sir!

If you have insurance it may be covered by the policy. You should check into that and find out about the process for making a claim. Unfortunately, many people have insurance deductables which are higher than the cost of a new computer. So, you may want to just buy a new system. Since you've already replaced the power supply, if you wanted to continue replacing parts you may be able to repair the computer. However, it will likely cost more to replace the damaged parts than to simply buy a new computer. After the power supply, the next items you want to check are the motherboard, CPU, and RAM (in that order). These are the next most likely parts to have been damaged and they are also the most expensive parts in most computers. If that still doesn't fix it, you would need to replace the drives and case (at that point there are no old parts left). If you go through replacing all those parts you will have built a new computer anyway, so buying a new system is probably the best option.

The plastic case around the Archos tablets does not offer much protection from dropping the device. It is likely that the camera was jarred loose when you dropped it and now has an intermittent connection. As for the music apps, I'm not sure which are working and which are not, nor how you've tested the sound and found it to be working great. My guess is that you have your music stored on a micro-SD card and that has become jarred loose from the tablet being dropped. If this is not the case there may be something else wrong with the tablet which was caused by the drops. Repairing either of there things would involve opening the Archos tablet, which is not easy. Additionally, you may need to re-solder some of the components, which will void any warranty you have left on the tablet and may cause further damage. My suggestion is to contact Archos about repairing the device or check with you friend about repairs.

Hello people,

I also got a problem with my Archos 101. It won't start, but when charging the small light is constantly green. I know that this means it charging, but after 20 hours it have to be fully charged I think. Can anyone give me some help about this problem. I already tried those 10, 15 and 60 seconds pressing startbutton but nothing seems to help.

I agree, it seems the Archos 101 has a long list of issues. I hope you device keeps working, good luck.
